The Banio river mouth Park is situated as the name suggest at the river mouth of the Banio estuary. It also has fishing villages bordering the park (mainly occupied by foreign fisherman) this makes constant surveillance by park rangers a must.

The park was officially created by President Ali Bongo Ondimba in June 2017, as part of a network of marine protected areas that make up around 26% of Gabon's territorial waters.  The park covers an area of 3870 hectares and plays a important role as a nursery for sharks. It also offers great diving spots when visibility is good.
